What are the payment limits?
There are different payment limits depending on which type of customer you are and the type of payment you are making.
Paying someone else
Paying someone else
You can manage your own payment limits within online banking for payments made from your account to someone else via online banking and the mobile app.
To change your payment limits, please log into online banking, select ‘Payments and transfers’ and then ‘Manage payment limits’ or 'Payment limits' in the mobile app.
Personal customers
To provide you with extra protection from fraud and scams, we've lowered your personal payment limit and given you the ability to manage your own payment limits.
The maximum limit you can set for payments via online banking, the mobile app and Open Banking* per working day is £20,000.00.
*Please note that, at present, accounts domiciled in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are not eligible for Open Banking services.
Business customers
Business customers can also manage their own payment limits through online banking and the mobile app.
The maximum limit for payments via online banking and the mobile app per working day is £50,000.00.
You can manage your own personal payment limits within Online Banking for payments made from your personal account to someone else via Online Banking and the mobile app.
To change your personal payment limits, please log into Online Banking, select ‘Payments and transfers’ and then ‘Manage payment limits’ or 'Payment limits' in the mobile app.
Bill Payments
Bill Payments
Online Banking and the mobile app hold a list of the most popular and frequently used utility, local authority and credit card companies. We call these Bill Payments.
When paying someone new, type in the company name and we will display a list of Bill Payments. You will then be able to select the payee and that will pre-populate their account number and sort code for you.
The limit for Bill Payments via Online Banking is:
- Personal customers - £20,000.00
- Premier customers - £20,000.00
- Business customers - £50,000.00
The limit for Bill Payments via the mobile app is:
- Personal customers - £20,000.00
- Premier customers - £20,000.00
- Business customers - £50,000.00

You can set up separate payments over a number of days. Alternatively you can make a CHAPS payment through a branch. Remember to take your debit card and proof of ID with you.

Payments via telephone banking are limited to £10,000.00.
Payments made on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday will form part of the next working day's allowance.
The limit for personal customers is per person, not per account.
For personal joint account holders, each party has a separate limit, so if one party of a joint account makes a payment to someone else from that account, it will not affect the daily limit of the other signatory on the account.
For business account holders, if you have multiple signatories on the account and any signatory makes a payment, this will impact how much you have remaining for that day.
