Using your debit card

No, you can use your debit card as soon as you get it.

• If you’re an existing customer, your current PIN will work with your new card.
• If you’re a new customer, we’ll send your PIN separately.

To use your debit card for contactless payments, you'll need to make a purchase or cash withdrawal using your card and PIN. After that, contactless payments will work.

The security code is a 3-digit number found on the back of your debit card. Often called the CVV or CVC, it adds a second level of authentication when making online or over-the-phone purchases.

Yes. You can use your debit card overseas, but fees might apply for purchases or ATM withdrawals. Use our debit card currency calculator to get an estimate of what a purchase or cash withdrawal could cost.

Before you travel, tell us your travel plans to reduce the likelihood of your transactions being blocked or flagged as suspicious.

How to add your travel plans in the app

• Log in to the mobile app.
• Select the account with your debit card.
• Tap "Manage cards & Apple Wallet" or "Manage cards & Google Wallet".
• Choose "Going Abroad".
• Follow the on‑screen instructions to add countries and dates.

You can only register one trip at a time. A travel plan can last up to 90 days and include up to 7 countries. Add each country separately with entry and exit dates, for example:

• Germany, entry 27/08/20XX, exit 10/09/20XX
  
• France, entry 11/09/20XX, exit 16/09/20XX (etc)

Please make sure there are no gaps or overlaps between dates. The total plan must not exceed 90 days.

The Travel Plan applies only to debit cards attached to accounts you manage in the mobile app and only in your name. If you’re a joint account holder, each person must register their own travel.
