How do I set up Google Pay™?
Google Pay™ makes paying in stores and apps quick and safe.
To use Google Pay, you need to add your eligible cards to the Google Pay app on your Android device. Follow these steps to get started and learn how to make payments.
How to add a card to Google Pay™
To add a card using our mobile app:
- Log in to the mobile app.
- Select the account that has your debit card.
- Tap 'Manage cards & Google Wallet'.
- Choose 'Add to Google Wallet' button.
- Confirm by tapping 'Add to Wallet'.
To add a card using the Google Wallet app:
- Open the Google Wallet app.
- Tap the '+' icon and enter your card and billing address.
- Read and accept the terms and conditions.
- Follow the on-screen steps to confirm your card.
Once your card is verified, you can start using Google Pay. You can use the same card on several devices.
If your device doesn’t have a screen unlock or contactless (Near Field Communication) turned on, you’ll be asked to set these up.
If you want to add multiple cards in Google Pay, you will need to add each one separately.
Paying with Google Pay™
You can make a payment with Google Pay, in-stores, on transport, or in apps where you see the 'Buy with Google Pay' button.
- The first card you added to Google Pay will be the default card.
- You can change this at any time by choosing another card and tapping 'Set as default card'.
How to make payments in-store
- Unlock your phone.
- Hold the back of your phone near the payment reader for a few seconds.
- Wait for a blue checkmark, vibration, or sound indicating success.
For larger purchases or security, you might need to enter your card PIN or sign.
To pay with Google Pay in an app
- Tap the 'Buy with Google Pay' or 'Google Pay' button at checkout.
- If prompted, select your preferred card and confirm your delivery address.
You may need to confirm your payment.using your PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition.
How to use Google Pay on public transport
- Unlock your phone.
- Hold the back of your phone against the contactless reader for a few seconds.
- A successful tap is indicated by a sound, vibration, or a blue checkmark on your screen.
Security and limits
Stores may set a limit on how much you can spend with Google Pay. NatWest International may set limits on how much and how often you can pay with Google Pay.
