Common questions

Logging in for the first time

Once you've registered for ibanking, we'll send you an activation code by post - it usually arrives within seven days. When you have the activation code, you're ready to start using the service.

  • Make sure you're familiar with the security information. Visit the ibanking log in page
  • Enter your customer number which you were given during the registration process
  • Tick the box to show that you've received a new activation code, then select the 'Next' button
  • Enter your activation code. You'll then be asked to choose a PIN and password. Make sure these are memorable - you'll need to remember them every time you log in
  • Destroy your activation code immediately
  • You'll need to select your own four digit personal identification number (PIN). Don't use the same one as your other cards. It can contain letters and numbers.

Existing user logging in

Once your ibanking service has been activated, logging in is easy:

  • Visit the ibanking log in page
  • Enter your customer number and select the 'Next' button
  • Enter the details we ask for from your PIN and password. We never ask for your full PIN or password, only random characters from each

Forgotten customer number

Unfortunately we cannot give you your customer number over the phone. However, if you visit us in branch or call us on +44 (0) 1534 282880, we can send out a reminder in the post. Calls may be recorded.

Forgotten password

Unfortunately, we cannot send you a reminder of your PIN or password. However, we can send you a new activation code - this allows you to re-activate your access to ibanking and choose a new PIN and password. Visit us in branch or call +44 (0) 1534 282880.

How to make a payment

First of all, you will need to complete the activation process outlined above. Then call our helpdesk on +44 (0) 1534 282880 to unlock your Smart Card Reader (calls may be recorded).

At this time you will be asked to select a 4-digit personal identification number (PIN) for your smart card. Don't use the same PIN as you use for your ibanking login.

You can apply for ibanking if you've got a NatWest International account and you're over 16:

Step 2
We will review your application and post your ibanking customer number and activation code to your home address

When you go online to activate the service, you'll be asked to choose a PIN and password.

Step 3
Need to make express sterling and international payments? Apply for ibanking Plus...

Your application will be processed automatically as ibanking plus which allows you to make domestic sterling and international payments.

We'll send you a smart card and card reader giving you an extra layer of security by authenticating your payments.

Once received, you need to unlock your card reader and select a smart card PIN by calling 01534 282880. Lines are open: Mon to Fri 9.00am-5.00pm. Calls may be recorded.
